Choosing the Right CNC Spring Machine: A Spec-First Buyer's Guide

Buying a CNC spring machine is not like buying an office printer. The wrong axis count or the wrong wire diameter range will sit idle in your shop for months, burning floor space and payroll. After watching more than 150 machines ship from our Dongguan floor to 15+ countries since 2004, we have learned that the customers who get the best ROI are the ones who match specs to parts, not specs to brochures.
This guide walks through the four questions we ask every buyer before recommending a model from our HSM-CNC series.
Question 1: What wire diameter are you actually running?
Wire diameter is the single spec that narrows the field fastest. A machine rated for 0.2–2.0 mm wire cannot hold tolerance on a 3.5 mm torsion spring, no matter how many axes it has. Below is how our eight-model lineup maps to wire range:

A common mistake: buyers running mostly 1.5 mm wire pick a 0.2–2.5 mm machine to "have headroom," then discover the servo tune is optimized around the middle of the range. Stay close to your median wire size.
Question 2: How many axes does your part actually need?
Axis count is the second filter. A 2-axis cnc precision spring machine handles straight compression springs and simple torsion coils. A 12-axis CNC torsion spring machine for bicycle seat springs needs to form the saddle hook geometry, the leg bends, and the pitch variations in one setup without manual re-fixturing.
Rule of thumb we share with buyers:
Compression springs, simple bends: 2 to 3 axes
Torsion springs with leg forming: 4 to 5 axes
Bicycle seat springs, complex wire forms: 8 to 12 axes
Micro-medical springs with tight pitch control: 12 axes with wire rotary

Question 3: Cam or camless — what is the real tradeoff?

If you run the same spring for 6 months straight, a cam machine will outperform on price-per-part. If you run 40 SKUs a month, a cnc spring bender machine in camless configuration pays back the premium inside the first year through setup time alone.
Question 4: What does support look like after the wire hits the floor?
A machine is only as good as the day your operator cannot solve a problem at 2 a.m. We have run a WeChat-based service group since 2014. One Vietnamese customer has been on the same HSM-CNC20 since 2010 and reports ±0.01 mm precision still holds after 15 years of shifts, with daily output up 35% versus their previous setup. That is not a marketing line — it is a production log.
Another buyer in Vietnam walked through our customer shop in March 2026 after seeing HSM machines run side-by-side with a competitor's unit. The difference in servo stability during a 30-minute observation was enough to close the order the same week. When you evaluate any CNC spring machine vendor, ask for the support channel, ask for the language, and ask how many years the average customer relationship lasts.

The cheapest machine on paper is rarely the cheapest machine on your P&L. Wire diameter range, axis count, cam versus camless, and post-installation support — those four answers will narrow your shortlist faster than any spec sheet comparison.
