Stable Wire Feeding for Medical Springs

Manufacturing medical springs requires more than precise dimensions. The process must also maintain wire position, compression, and repeatability across long production runs. A stable wire feeding metal spring machine for medical spring product helps reduce dimensional drift, operator intervention, and inspection workload. For many manufacturers, this makes CNC spring forming more than a production investment: it becomes a process-control decision.

Dongzheng Spring Machine, established in Dongguan in 2004, builds CNC spring machines for wire diameters from 0.08 mm to 6.0 mm. The company produces more than 150 machines annually and has shipped over 150 units outside China to customers in more than 15 countries.

Why Wire Feeding Stability Matters

In medical spring production, a small deviation can affect compression force, spring length, or fit within an assembled device. The common causes of unstable wire feeding include:

  • Wire diameter variation between batches

  • Loose or incorrectly adjusted feed rollers

  • Slipping at low acceleration

  • Incorrect alignment between the wire guide and forming tools

  • Servo response differences during short forming cycles

  • Springback compensation based on inaccurate material data

Wire feeding stability should therefore be evaluated as a SYSTEM rather than a single machine specification. Feed roller pressure, guide geometry, servo synchronization, tooling setup, and the operator’s adjustment method all influence the final part.

For a STABLE WIRE FEEDING METAL SPRING MACHINE FOR MEDICAL SPRING PRODUCT, repeatable performance is especially important where production lots must remain within defined tolerances. The HSM-CNC20 has operated for more than 100 units globally and supports a stated wire range of 0.2–4.0 mm, depending on configuration and tooling.

How CNC Spring Forming Controls the Process

CNC spring machines coordinate wire feeding, rotation, and tool movement through programmed parameters. Compared with manual setting, this approach provides several practical advantages:

  • Controlled wire advance and rotation

  • Repeatable tool paths for different spring specifications

  • Faster changeovers without mechanical cam readjustment

  • Program-based adjustment of pitch, coil diameter, and spring length

  • Easier comparison of a new setting against a known production standard

The key is not merely the number of axes. The useful question is whether the control system keeps the feed and forming axes synchronized under real production conditions.

For a SPRING FORMING SOLUTIONS COMPANY, machine selection should begin with the product itself. Wire diameter, spring geometry, material grade, output requirement, and tolerance determine the most practical machine configuration.

The HSM-CNC20 is used across multiple markets, including Vietnam, Brazil, Indonesia, and South Korea. It is also relevant to medical spring production when the application falls within its wire range and required force limits.

What Production Data Tells Us

A Vietnamese customer operating the HSM-CNC20 since 2010 reported a 35% increase in daily output after eight months, with dimensional accuracy remaining stable at ±0.01 mm. This case shows the operational value of reducing setup adjustments and maintaining consistent wire positioning.

Another Brazilian customer purchased two HSM-CNC20 machines in 2022. The machines have operated without repair service since purchase, based on communication through the customer’s WeChat support group. In contrast, a Shenzhen customer that purchased two HSM-CNC20 machines and one HSM-CNC08 in 2026 emphasized stable operation, durability, and ease of setup.

More recently, a customer compared several spring machine suppliers and inspected Dongzheng’s factory before selecting three HSM-CNC20 cam spring machines. The customer focused on wear-resistant chute and slider materials, the geometry of the forming arm, and the integrated wire-feed box design. After comparing the machines with competing options, the customer selected Dongzheng based on the overall production value rather than purchase price alone.

These examples support a simple procurement principle: LOWEST INITIAL PRICE does not always mean the lowest production cost. Setup time, wire rejection, downtime, and maintenance requirements should be included in the comparison.

Managing Wire Feeding Slips

If a spring’s dimensions begin to vary during a long run, operators should check the following sequence:

  • Confirm that the programmed wire feed matches the actual material diameter.

  • Inspect feed rollers for wear, contamination, or excessive compression.

  • Verify that the wire path has no sharp bends or binding points.

  • Check guide alignment and the clearance between the guide and wire.

  • Compare the current coil length with the first parts produced after setup.

  • Review tool wear, especially where it changes pitch or spring diameter.

  • Recheck material properties when switching wire suppliers or lots.

The response should be based on observed symptoms. If length drifts while pitch remains stable, the feed system deserves priority. If both length and pitch vary, inspect the forming tools and synchronization between the feed and forming axes.

Cam or Camless for Medical Production?

CAM MACHINES use mechanical cam profiles to control specific motions. They can provide a direct solution for established products and relatively stable specifications.

CAMLESS MACHINES use servo-controlled axes and CNC programs. They are useful when a manufacturer produces multiple spring types, changes dimensions frequently, or wants faster setup without repeated mechanical adjustment.

For high-volume production of one proven design, either technology can be appropriate. For frequent product changes, a camless configuration may reduce setup work. The decision should be based on changeover frequency, product range, operator experience, and required output—not only machine price.

Long-Term Production Value

Dongzheng’s installed base includes more than 150 machines outside China across more than 15 countries. The reported distribution includes 40+ units in Vietnam, 10+ in Brazil, and 5+ each in Indonesia and South Korea.

In Turkey, a repeat customer first purchased a Dongzheng machine in 2018 and added a length tester because of initial concerns about stability. After observing that the machine maintained stable, reliable output without the tester, the customer reordered two HSM-CNC08 machines in 2026.
